Highlighting Black-Owned Excellence

As part of ICON CDC’s Black History Month efforts, I visited The Skin Butter store after noticing that the business lacked quality images on both Google and social media. A strong digital presence is essential for small businesses to attract new customers, so I offered to take professional photos of the storefront, interior, and products. These photos provided the owner with high-quality content that could be used to strengthen her online visibility and better reflect the value of her brand.
While on site, I saw an opportunity to do more than just support her visibility. I proposed that ICON CDC purchase a set of her products and use them in a promotional giveaway for our followers. The idea was to celebrate Black entrepreneurship while driving engagement and bringing attention to a local Black-owned business. The campaign was well received by the community, led to increased activity on our social media platforms, and gave the business additional exposure to a broader audience.
This project is a reflection of how I approach content creation as more than just promotion. It is about recognizing gaps, finding ways to uplift others, and using our platform to bring visibility and value to the entrepreneurs we serve.
